well, here it is. after 30+ hours of work, it is done. The title, "1865," is the year Alice's Adventures in wonderland was first published. I thought that was a more interesting title than the obvious "Cheshire Cat."

Acrylic on Canvas, 2x4 ft.

MC Escher's woodcut prints were the inspiration behind this. his prints were made entirely of black lines of varying widths, instead of different shades. After a few weeks of trial and error, I figured out how to do it, and made a few test copies of this. one of which was on wood, and another was on paper, which I gave to a very good friend of mine, and now, I have done one on canvas. This is the first time I have done a painting of this scale and complexity, and I am beyond pleased with the outcome.

Please leave comments, I am very interested to see what you all have to say about this.

It's a really interesting way of creating an image. The cheshire cat actually jumps out at me more in the thumbnail than in the regular (larger) posting...so I could envision someone looking at this close up and saying "I don't get it" and then walking across the room and going "OH!!" pretty cool, glad you put the work into it!

That is exactly how i wanted people to react.

Not quite knowing what it is up close, but from far away knowing exactly what it is. Thats part of why i ended up titling it "1865," so if i were to hang it in a large space, up close, not even the title would give away what it is.

It looks way more resolute than I thought it would considering the WIP, which I saw a while back. I love the way you did this!!! It looks fantastic, just suiting for Alice in Wonderland.
